How it works
Each ingredient's per-100 g values are scaled by its grams, summed for the whole recipe, then divided by the number of servings for the per-serving figures.
Worked example: Simple Tomato Pasta (2 servings)
Spaghetti 280 g + Tomato 246 g (2 medium) + Butter 14 g. Spaghetti: 158 ร 2.8 = 442.4 kcal, protein 16.24 g, carbs 86.52 g, fat 2.52 g. Tomato: 18 ร 2.46 = 44.28 kcal, protein 2.214 g, carbs 9.594 g, fat 0.492 g. Butter: 717 ร 0.14 = 100.38 kcal, protein 0.126 g, carbs 0.014 g, fat 11.34 g. Totals: 587 kcal, protein 18.6 g, carbs 96.1 g, fat 14.4 g. Per serving (รท 2): 294 kcal, 9.3 g protein, 48.1 g carbs, 7.2 g fat.
Frequently asked questions
Should ingredients be weighed raw or cooked?
Match the database entry: pasta and rice figures here are for the cooked form, so weigh the cooked amount where the entry says so.
What if my ingredient is not in the database?
Pick the closest match, or check the full food list โ the database grows over time.
Are seasonings counted?
Only ingredients you add are counted. Salt, herbs and spices add very few calories but can add sodium โ add them if they matter to you.
Is the result exact?
It is an estimate from USDA-based values; brands and cooking methods change the real numbers slightly.
